Membrane Group’s multiple-effect configuration combines two or more evaporator bodies to conserve steam, which is condensed in the first-effect heat exchanger only. Water evaporated in the first-effect vapour body is condensed in the second-effect heat exchanger, which provides energy for evaporation in the second-effect vapour body (and so on for additional effects). Vapour from the last effect flows to a condenser. The last-effect vapour body is maintained at a high vacuum with a steam-jet air ejector or mechanical vacuum pump. The driving force is the pressure drop from the first to the last effect. TVR further helps in maximizing the steam economy thereby reducing operating cost.

These Evaporators are designed on Forced Circulation Technology in which effluent is pumped with very high velocities through the tubes so as to minimize the scaling inside the tubes thereby reduce downtime due to cleaning

MEE are typically used to concentrate effluent from a feed concentration of ~1-10% to 35% and are available in various capacities. Post reaching a concentration of 35% the effluent has to be further treated in a Dryer/ Crystallization System to reach a concentration above 90% Solids and hence achieve ZLD. Membrane Group recommends and supplies Agitated Thin Film Dryer (ATFD) for this application wherein Dry baggable salts of less than 10% Moisture can be obtained on a continuous basis without any down time.
